The Engineering Technologist II provides technical and engineering services for various ship repair and build support projects at Victoria Shipyards. This role liaises between the technical office and other shipyard departments, ensuring effective communication and resolution of vessel and fabrication shop floor issues.
Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria.
What you’ll do
- Technical Package Development : Review customer information and participate in developing technical packages, including conceptual designs, 3D models, P&ID diagrams, and mechanical repair plans.
- Project Leadership : Provide technical support on assigned projects, supporting Operations, Production, Estimating, Supply Chain, HSE, and QA departments.
- Problem-solving : Resolve technical production issues in fabrication shops and onboard vessels.
- Design and Analysis : Perform technical and engineering calculations in multiple fields.
- Documentation : Prepare technical documents, including design and production drawings, supporting calculations, and reports.
- Collaboration : Work closely with a multi-disciplinary engineering team, review ship repair and conversion strategies and participate in developing technical proposals.
- Provide technical support on assigned projects.
- Perform engineering calculations within fields of knowledge (., statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials & fluids, weight control, intact stability, and electrical systems).
- Contribute to technical investigations into component or system failures.
- Participate in developing engineered design solutions and repair strategies.
- Prepare repair specifications, work instructions, and inspection plans.
- Create design and shop drawings for manufacturing and repair purposes.
- Participate in all phases of refit projects, including requirements decomposition, design preparations, support analysis, material selection and specification, technical and engineering execution, and close-out activities.
- Participate in developing rigging arrangements and lifting plans.
- Collect and process technical information for ship repair projects.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve production issues.
- Perform inspections as part of the collection process, assist during job execution, and contribute to the quality of the engineering work.
- Assist other departments by preparing technical information packages (., Refit Layouts, P&IDs, Material Cut-Lists, Nesting Sheets, and BOMs).
- Participate in lessons learned throughout project execution and at close-out.

The estimated salary for this position is $87,000 – $104,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
