The Saskatchewan has a great opportunity for a Scaling Specialist in the Branch, located in Prince Albert. Our Scaling Specialist supports the sustainable growth of Saskatchewan’s Forest sector across the province. As the Scaling Specialist, you will :
- Support and provide expertise to provincial policy and standards related to scaling and revenue under the Forest Products Scaling Code Chapter;
- Review and approve sample scaling plans and amendments to ensure plans meet provincial scaling standards used to determine volume harvested for calculation of dues and fees;
- Collaborate with industry to review issues and identify solutions that increase efficiencies while still meeting obligations and complying with the Forest Resources Management Act and Regulations;
- Analyze data and anticipate trends that may impact the integrity of the sampling programs;
- Provide direction to licensees and advice to policy makers regarding overall sampling intensities, cost of scaling and provide higher statistical assurance and accuracy;
- Provide subject matter expertise to support and improve the timeliness and transparency of scaling analysis for calculation of dues and fees;
- Provide technical advice to other ministry staff to ensure compliance to operating procedures related to scaling and reporting data collection;
- Oversees and reviews activities carried out by staff related to the administration and maintenance of systems that collect and report scaling information and the delivery of the Licenced Scalers Course; and
- Leads the scaling program’s compliance and enforcement to incorporate scaling into the Branch Compliance Plan and Branch Compliance Report.
The Ideal candidate will have :
Responsibilities of this position include operation of a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck and all-terrain vehicles in off road conditions, as well as fieldwork year-round and travel throughout Saskatchewan including remote locations.
Typically, the competencies required for this position can be achieved through a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry with significant experience in forest operations and scaling.
The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals within 3 years of commencement.
