PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Health and Safety Intern will assist in various projects relating to health and safety at all business locations in Ontario.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Identifies and evaluates occupational health, safety, hazardous environmental conditions, and practices in the workplace.
Assists in on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, or in response to concerns from employees and managers.
Stays current with trends and changes to health and safety legislations and standards, to anticipate their impact on our agricultural operations.
Research and recommend technology and relevant trends, with relation to safety matters, and assist with implementation of existing processes.
Review Safety Data Sheets database for Canada to ensure compliance with inventory products.
Assist with tracking and filing of Health & Safety related licenses and training records.
Participates in health & safety meetings.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Requirements
Completing 3rd year of BA in related field, 2-year college candidates may be considered if minimum qualifications are met.
Must be 18 years of age with a full G driving license to drive a company vehicle, along with the ability to travel independently.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Mental Effort
Requires periods of concentration, normally moderate to occasionally high in intensity and attention to detail while completing site inspections and various reports in a fast paced environment.
The incumbent may encounter moderate to occasionally high mental stress increases when dealing with incidents. This position requires the incumbent to give presentations to groups, which may cause anxiety and stress for some individuals.
Physical Effort
Requires some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to utilize manlifts, stairs and ladders to inspect facilities.
Working Conditions
Additional hours, or time outside of the normal business hours, may be necessary due to operational requirements.
Requires time to be spent both in office and at the branches. Traveling will be required.
