Required Skills
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct activities and workers concerned with the construction of underground structures and systems
- Interpret and explain plans to workers and subcontractors
- Train employees in the proper use of tools and monitor their activities
- Take actions to deal with the results of delays or emergencies at construction site
- Ensure that all aspects of the work are done in a safe manner
- Ensure the quality of work is in compliance with project specifications, safety codes, and other regulations
- Makes appropriate recommendations as to materials, equipment, and manpower requirements
- Prepare and submit progress and cost tracking reports
- Confer with personnel, superintendents, and subcontractors to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management
- Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of materials, methods, the tools involved in construction, and related PPE
- Knowledge of relevant equipment and safety policies and procedures to comply with company policy, local, state or federal laws
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work
- Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
- Ability to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
Education / Experience
- High School degree or equivalent
- 6 to 8 years underground work experience which provided a thorough working knowledge of all phases of underground excavation methods and techniques
- Minimum 3 to 5 years experience supervising others
