As a Youth Care Worker in a school, your role is to provide essential support and guidance to students facing various challenges.

This includes offering emotional support, counseling, and mentorship to help them navigate academic, social, and personal difficulties.

You'll collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create tailored intervention plans and ensure the well-being and success of each student.

Additionally, you may organize and facilitate workshops, group sessions, and other activities aimed at promoting positive mental health, resilience, and life skills among the student body.

Your compassionate approach and dedication make a significant impact in fostering a supportive and nurturing school environment.

Once hired, a casual employee can view all internal postings for Term and Continuing positions and has the contractual right to post into vacancies to secure more consistent and / or guaranteed hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 12

graduation

Completion of a

two-year Child & Youth Care Worker diploma program (or an equivalent

combination of training and education)

One to two years’

related experience working with families, individuals and with groups.

Valid BC's

driver's License.

First Aid

Certificate

Ability to

communicate effectively using tact, diplomacy and persuasion in frequent

contacts of a difficult, specialized or sensitive nature.

Ability to be

flexible to meet the varying academic, social, emotional and behavioral

needs of students.

Working

knowledge of computers

Physical

ability to perform the required duties

Access to a reliable vehicle / means of transportation

Certification as a Youth Care Worker

Copy of your transcript (official or unofficial) from your YCW program

Email addresses for a minimum of three references (ideally, former supervisors from your most recent / relevant role)

Scanned copy of your valid BC Driver’s license

Clear driver’s abstract / history (can be obtained from ICBC)

Proof of high school graduation (or completion of other post-secondary education)

Valid / Current first aid certification (proof of registration for the course can serve as a placeholder for your application;

however, you need to complete the course prior to beginning work in the district)
