Position Description The Student Support Teacher is a member of the in-school team who provides support and services to students with special education and learning needs.
Within a tiered service delivery model, the SST provides consultative and direct support to students to facilitate their inclusion and success in the regular classroom environment.
The SST works with the classroom teacher to implement instructional and support strategies based on a student’s unique learning profile and strengths / needs.
Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct support to students with a particular focus on learning needs Collaborate with the classroom teacher to develop programming and implement appropriate program accommodations, modifications and resources to support student achievement Conduct evidence based educational assessments, including diagnostic assessments and screening to identify students’ strengths, needs and next steps Collaborate in the development, implementation, monitoring and updating of IEPs Provide small group, intensive and evidence-based intervention in the areas of literacy and numeracy including intensive programs (i.
e Lexia, Empower) Liaise with families and community partners in the development of support and intervention strategies / plans Coordinate referrals to the in-school multi-disciplinary team, district support, and community resources, as well as attend regularly scheduled in-school team meetings to support student needs Complete administrative tasks directly related to support for students, including but not limited to SEA claims, medical / safety plans, and transition meetings Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Current OCT Certificate in good standing Primary, Junior, and FSL qualifications Special Education Part 1 qualification (required), Specialist (an asset) Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and implementation of UDL and Differentiated Instruction Demonstrated experience supporting the monitoring and updating IEPs Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience implementing Assistive Technology in support of student learning and achievement Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and implementation of evidence-based instruction and intervention Demonstrated experience administering and interpreting Diagnostic Assessments and Screeners Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the profile of exceptionalities and strategies to support identified exceptionalities Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience with mental health promotion and the impact of mental health on student achievement and well-being Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment Experience in using and implementing assistive technology Experience teaching multiple divisions / grade levels Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent organizational and time management skills How to ApplyIf you are passionate about teaching and learning and are energized by a career where you will have a positive impact on the life of a child, and you can see yourself in Limestone, please visit Apply to Education to complete your application Elementary Student Support Teacher by July 9, 2024 at 3pm, where you will be asked to provide the following : Resume detailing your skills and experience A maximum 2-minute video clip or cover letter in that represents how you see yourself in Limestone.
