0.600 FTE Itinerant Elementary Counsellor (Teacher) Inclusive Education This is a temporary assignment effective September 1, 2024 to March 28, 2025 or to return of teacher to full contractual FTE whichever comes first.
This assignment is to be worked at Carlin Elementary Middle School.The successful candidate will be part of the Inclusive Education department with responsibility for collaborating with elementary schools to support students with a range of social-emotional and behavioral needs.
Counselling services may be provided to individuals and our groups and may involve referral to school-based or district-based personnel, to specialized services or programs, or to community resources.
- Qualifications : Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology recognized by the Teacher Regulation Branch (or a related discipline with a counselling focus) Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience A senior level course and experience in Level B assessment;
- Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch. Successful applicants should also possess the following skills and attributes : Previous successful experience as an Elementary Middle School Counsellor;
- Strong communication and time management skills; Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish relationships with others based on mutual respect;
- Successful experience working with at-risk children and families and facilitating access to preventive and / or intervention services Significant training and experience working with families and children struggling with the impact of trauma;
- Ability to build staff knowledge and skill in creating trauma-informed classrooms / schools; Working knowledge of identification procedures and facilitating documentation for Special Education categories particularly Category H Ability to work with school-based teams to develop behavior support plans and enhance the school’s capacity for supporting students with challenging behavior;
- Support students in the development of positive social skills in small group settings. Work with school-based teams to develop appropriate educational and social programs to meet student needs Consulting with parents, teachers and administrators to clarify student expectations and goals;
- Consulting with district and community resource personnel and making student referrals as appropriate; Small group and one-to-one counseling (complex cases to be referred to community-based clinicians) Knowledge and experience in working with school-based teams to create competency-based IEPs;
