Research - Senior Health Economist

BC Cancer

The Senior Health Economist reports to Senior Scientist, Dr. Dean Regier, within the department of Cancer Control Research.

What you’ll do

  • Consistent with PHSA and BC Cancer policy and professional standards of practice, conduct quantitative and / or qualitative health economics and health service research studies in collaboration with health care professionals within the BC Cancer, PHSA and its agencies, the Ministry of Health Services and other external partners.
  • Develop, critique, and execute decision analytic models for economic evaluation of health care initiatives by collecting, linking and analyzing primary data and / or large administrative datasets.
  • Research and design tools, templates and techniques to model outcomes from a clinical, population and budgetary perspective.
  • Design studies, source external funding from Canadian and International agencies, recruits, trains and supervises research staff.
  • Accountable for management of and reporting on grant and project funds held as a Principal Investigator.
  • Prepare final health economics and services research reports for dissemination to collaborating parties.
  • Prepare abstracts, posters and oral presentations for submission to scientific conferences.
  • Disseminate findings by preparing manuscripts for scientific publication and executive reports for internal partners.

What you bring

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a PhD in Health Economics, Health Services, Health Policy or related discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related experience in a healthcare or academic research environment.

You also have :

  • Advanced knowledge of health economics theory and demonstrated excellence in the application of health economics methods.
  • Expert knowledge of study design, data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced data manipulation, analysis and information presentation through the use of database and spreadsheet software.
  • Working knowledge of cancer control and health systems.
  • Ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to identify, plan and execute independent work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to contribute both as a team member and a team lead.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to comprehend complex issues and related data / information and present information in concise and meaningful ways.
  • Demonstrated organization skills to generate work plans to meet project deadlines within timeline, scope and budget.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.

Wage : $88,990 to $127,923 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
