Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor oversees the daily operations in accordance with our production demands and schedules while ensuring that worker safety, regulatory compliance, food quality & safety and employee engagement are met or exceeded.
The Production Supervisor is a highly self-motivated leader with a high sense of urgency to deliver on a wide array of priorities in order to contribute to the team's success.
Salary Range : 69,700-78,413
Schedule :
- Must be flexible with rotational shifts for vacation relief coverage
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, if needed
- 5-6 work-day schedule at 40-48 hours per week
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities represent the essential duties of the role but may not be limited to; other duties may be assigned by Plant Manager.
Customer driven manufacturing capability to provide products which consistently meet our standards for quality, cost, and food safety by :
- Supervising and coordinating employees on shift in Delta to execute NP’s core operating processes, including the GMP’s, SOP’s, supply management, TQM and LEAN, to ensure quality product, best value for customers, and efficiencies and cost structures that optimize profitability;
- Ensuring production for a shift is on schedule and within budget;
- Working with the Plant Manager to coordinate preventative maintenance to optimize performance of equipment and facilities;
- Ensuring that lean practices are being incorporated for continuous improvement used to maximize efficiencies;
- Conduct daily transition meetings to ensure production is on schedule and within budget and making changes as needed to attain production goals;
- Conduct regular (at least monthly) Crew Talks with team members to ensure safety is always top of mind.
Recruits, coaches and develops dedicated, focused and capable employees to meet NP’s current and future operating needs by :
- Working with Human Resources and the Plant Manager to implement Nature’s Path’s people management systems (recruitment and selection;
- training and development; communications, involvement and feedback; salary, compensation and group benefits; performance management and continuous improvement;
time clock review and approval; and safety in the workplace). Keep adequate team member records and submissions that record corrective actions and closing the loop (finding team members doing things right!)
Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies;
implement discipline procedures. Provide timely, accurate and thorough Performance Reviews for supervised employees.
- Ensuring that all staff respect Nature’s Path’s Personnel Policies;
- Acting as a champion for Lean and coaching team members and Lead Hands consistent with the "Nature’s Path Way" training to reinforce key lean principles and methodologies;
- Working closely with the Lead Hand to optimize the engagement and development of team members on every shift; actively works to build and develop high performance teams through coaching and mentoring;
deals with conflict in a respectful, forthright and timely way so that problems do not fester; facilitate effective team meetings.
- Ensuring that the work environment is meeting safety and health standards and that equipment is well-maintained and is functioning in a reliable manner;
- Ensuring that team members and Lead Hands are being trained to meet the current and future needs of the organization, in a planned manner- provides recommendations to PlantManager regarding training for employees
- Consistently setting a personal example in leadership, as servant leader
Assists the Plant Manager with the optimal use of, and returns on, the financial resources of Nature’s Path by :
- Working with the Plant Manager to efficiently plan the utilization of materials and other resources to minimize waste and obtain optimum returns on assets employed;
- Ensuring that all practices respect the financial policies and practices of Nature’s Path
Assists the Plant Manager with the effective co-ordination of a shift in the Production, in a mutually supportive, team effort by :
- Using inter-departmental coordinating mechanisms and procedures to facilitate ongoing communication and coordination in key areas, including the Product Development Team, work scheduling, and the Capital Planning and Purchasing Team.
- Using customer-driven, win-win problem solving methods to resolve inter-departmental work issues
- Responsible for accounting for Production team members in the event of an Emergency Evacuation
Assists the Plant Manager with ensuring that quality decision making is happening throughout the Operations by :
- Ensuring that each employee is properly trained to make the decisions required for her / his job;
- Constantly striving to get the relevant, accurate, timely and user-friendly information to each employee for informed decision-making.
Assists the Plant Manager in creating a commendable reputation of Nature’s Path in the business community and public by :
- Respectfully and capably representing the best interests of Nature’s Path in all internal and external dealings;
- Requiring the same standards from all staff in their internal and external dealings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Preferred 2-3 years’ experience as a Team Lead or Supervisor in a fast-paced environment
- 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in food manufacturing
- Good working knowledge in GMP, HACCP and other food quality & safety related regulations
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Strong business acumen, judgment, diplomacy and discretion
- Strong organization, multi-tasking, prioritization and time management skills
- Basic understanding of safety procedures
- Must be familiar with manufacturing control and scheduling software.
- Strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office
- Excellent attendance is a must
- Available to work weekends, evenings and on statutory holidays, as needed
Back Up : In the event of a vacancy the default substitute for any key accountabilities will become the responsibility of the next level up in that Department.
For the Department Supervisors this will be the Plant Manager. Most daily responsibilities will be designated to the Team Lead.
