Our client is seeking a Senior Accounting Clerk
Overview
Working under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Senior Accounting Clerk will support AP / AR accounting operations by recording and maintaining accounting transactions.
The Senior Accounting Clerk is a highly fast-paced visible position that is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable for the First Nation.
Attention to detail in data entry and in maintaining financial records and supporting documentation is critical to ensure compliance with standard operating policies and procedures.
Additional duties include responding to vendors and contractors’ inquiries, and liaising with staff in maintaining service and quality processing of financial accounts.
Responsibilities
- Receive Invoices from vendors and organize them for approval and enter in Xyntax for payment in a timely manner
- Ensure that business transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
- Communicate with vendors to resolve the issues and maintain all payment records for audit purposes
- Be a main contact person for vendors and resolve their questions / concerns
- Work collaboratively with Junior Accounting Clerks to ensure Band member payables are entered and paid in an accurate and timely manner
- Ensure copies of all transactions are maintained on file
- Band member engagement for financial inquiries. This includes engaging with Chief and Council
- Understand the importance of thoroughness in accounting process
- Reconcile Corporate VISA cards
- Perform various accounting related duties as assigned
- Office supply orders for the Finance office
- Maintain proper accounting filing records
- Mentoring Jr. Accounting and Reception staff
- Maintain timely and accurate AR records for customers and tenants
- Submit invoice creation requests to finance monthly
- Send invoices to tenants and customers of the First Nation on a monthly basis
- Manage receipt of funds for payment on Invoices, this includes bank deposits, etc.
- Report past due payments to Controller for follow-up
Qualifications
- Accounting related experience or accounting certificate an asset
- Knowledge in Xyntax Native Systems an asset
- Must be computer oriented
- Basic Excel knowledge is required
- Conscientious attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment
- Capable of performing duties with limited supervision
- Must possess excellent organization, time management and prioritizing skills
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- Able to adhere to deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Cultural awareness
Employment Conditions
Must sign and maintain a strict confidentiality agreement
Hours of Work
- Monday through Friday
- 7 hours per day
Closes when successful candidate identified
