Join our Public Markets Operations team, where you'll support Analytics & Reporting and create tailored solutions for portfolio managers, traders, and senior leaders.

The Public Markets group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity and absolute return investments representing approximately $142 billion utilizing both index and active management strategies.
The group invests in Canada, the U.S. and internationally in both the developed and emerging markets. Assets are managed using both internal management and external managers.
The group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities, and derivatives. In addition, the group is a leader in responsible investing, actively integrating environmental, social, and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.
Public Markets Operations ( PM Ops ), a team within Public Markets, provides operational foundation for departments’ existing strategies while being a strategic partner to the various investment teams in the exploration of new value-add strategies for our clients.
The team is the key interface with internal and external business partners and stakeholders in execution of Public Markets’ business.
WHAT YOU BRING
Undergraduate degree in business, statistical, mathematical, computer science or other related discipline
Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and implementing various analytics techniques for Capital Markets
Strong understanding of Capital Markets
Comfortable writing complex SQL code (advanced level)
Proficient in Python for data modeling / engineering / science (advanced level)
Demonstrated experience in data transformation and data manipulation
Experience in working with large and diverse data sets
Comfortable with data visualization creation such as Tableau
Ability to communicate clearly and adapt messaging according to audience
Proactive attitude, interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
CFA / CAIA designation or in progress is preferred
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Based in our offices in Victoria, British Columbia, and reporting to the Director, Analytics & Reporting, the Associate / Senior Associate will be part of a small team supporting the Analytics & Reporting for the Public Markets department.
The Associate / Senior Associate will be primarily responsible for providing strategic insights through developing and implementing interactive, on-demand analytical tools and solutions for a variety of stakeholders within Public Markets including portfolio managers, traders and senior leadership in Public Markets.
This position provides the candidate with an excellent opportunity to combine their business knowledge with technological acumen, enabling strategic decisions within Public Markets.
The successful candidate will use the existing Analytics & Reporting Infrastructure to deploy new models.
In collaboration with Portfolio Managers and Traders, supports the oversight of diverse public markets strategies by engineering investment analytics by leveraging in-house infrastructure.
Plays a key role in researching, analyzing, enhancing, and creating performance and attribution metrics across various aggregations of Public Markets
Researches, develops and maintains aggregate department-level models for Public Markets assets focusing on exposure at the total portfolio and individual strategy levels
Crafts the design and development of interactive Tableau dashboard to facilitate investment decision-making for Fixed Income, Equity, and Derivatives strategies
Addresses and answers ad-hoc inquiries from various stakeholders across BCI regarding Public Markets data
Troubleshoots Public Markets data discrepancies, identify the sources, and implements solutions to address the issues
Provides subject matter expertise on in-depth data analysis and data visualization on various Public Markets topics
Develops modern, clean, reusable, and well-tested Python source code that is scalable and performs efficiently
Demonstrates the ability to simplify complex business problems and extract valuable insights from large data sets
Other responsibilities as delegated by the Director, Analytics & Reporting

Work from our downtown Victoria office; relocation support is available if needed
SALARY RANGE
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for the Associate role is CAD $100,000 to $120,000 , and for the Senior Associate role, it is CAD $120,000 to $140,000 .
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure.
We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
