SALARY : Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum : $62,239.00

Maximum : $85,578.90

ORGANIZATION : The BC-CfE is a renowned HIV / AIDS research Centre with integrated research concentrations in the areas of Epidemiology, Health Economics, Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, and Professional Education Programs (https : / / bccfe.

ca / ). A multidisciplinary team of Epidemiologists, Data Analysts, Statisticians, Economists, and Clinical Researchers work collaboratively to conduct research to improve the health of people living with HIV and people with related conditions in British Columbia.

The BC-CfE also operates a primary care service the Hope to Health Research and Innovation Centre (H2H; https : / / www.

bccfe.ca / hope-health-research-innovation-centre / about ) that serves clients who often have complex needs such as substance use disorders, mental illnesses, and housing instability.

JOB SUMMARY : Reporting to the Director, Epidemiology and Population Health (E&PH) Program, the Research Coordinator, Routinely Collected Data will support documentation and descriptive examination activities related to using routinely collected data for research particularly electronic medical records (EMR) and administrative health data (e.

g., healthcare practitioner billings, hospitalizations, and medication dispensings). With the guidance of the Senior Epidemiologist, this individual will review and summarize published literature and perform data examinations with the aim of creating educational / training materials, inform new analytic approaches, and build documentation that can be used to support research using these data at the BC-CfE.

This role will liaise with technical, research, and clinical staff at the BC-CfE (including the Hope to Health Centre), to develop a better understanding of routinely collected data for research purposes.

Specifically, with the goal of building internal capacity and improving the quality of research outputs, the compilation of information regarding the structure, validity, and quality of routinely collected data (into manuals and accessible presentations) will be the main responsibility of the Research Coordinator, Routinely Collected Data.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

With the guidance of the Senior Epidemiologist and Head, Health Information Management, the Research Coordinator, Routinely Collected Data will :

  • Create educational / training materials (e.g., compilation of information related to the structure, validity, and quality of routinely collected data into manuals and presentations), including reviewing / summarizing literature relevant to the use of routinely collected data for research.
  • Coordinate meetings (including scheduling, agenda creation, notetaking), and contribute to discussions, related to the use of routinely collected data for research purposes.
  • Conduct evaluation, exploration, documentation, and validation of routinely collected data to help support understanding of how best to repurpose these data for research incorporating guidance from relevant research methodologies used in the literature.
  • Consult and collaborate with relevant technical, research, and clinical staff at the BC-CfE (including the Hope to Health Centre) to better understand routinely collected data and their use for research.
  • When necessary, consult with external researchers / technical experts to supplement in-house understandings of how routinely collected data can be leveraged for research purposes.
  • Support research staff (e.g., trainees, research assistants, coordinators, analysts, as well as research scientists and clinicians) by reviewing study protocols and resultant abstracts / manuscripts that describe outputs from analyses of routinely collected data.
  • Develop and lead data quality, methodologic, and / or validation related research projects for first-author publication, if time and interest permits.
  • Conform to the highest standards of responsible conduct in research and comply with BC-CfE policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology or Population / Public Health supplemented by 1-2 years of recent related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
  • Effective skills in communication (written, oral) of technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with routinely collected data (e.g., administrative data and / or electronic medical records), particularly in British Columbia or other Canadian regions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key epidemiologic concepts (e.g., study design, bias, adjustment for confounding) and research concepts more broadly.
  • Technical competency managing and analyzing health data with software such as SAS, R, SQL.
  • Attention-to-detail and enthusiasm for working collaboratively to solve complex problems.

Skills and Abilities (Assets)

  • Demonstrated technical skills, including database-related programming, with large linked administrative datasets and / or electronic medical records.
  • Experience in the creation of educational / training materials (e.g., manuals and presentations).
  • Knowledge of HIV / AIDS, viral hepatitis, and / or substance use content areas.
