Position Overview :
We are looking for positive and energetic role models to help lead our youth programs this school year.
As part of our City of Kitchener Youth Services team, you will work with your team lead or program instructor and fellow leaders to implement programs for youth in a fun and relaxed environment.
Youth Leaders at community centre sites will deliver indoor youth drop-in recreational programming that will includesports, arts and crafts, and games for youth ages 12 17.
They may also be supporting an instructor in a specific specialized program such as teen cooking, fine arts, creative writing, drama, skateboarding and specific sports skills development.

Anticipated Employment Dates :
- Training : Thursday September 12 @ 6 : 00PM 8 : 00PM or Saturday September 14 @ 3 : 30PM 5 : 30PM. Please Note : In-person and online training is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of programs.
- Programs start the week of September 16.
Hours per week : Part-time : 0 24 hours.
Hours of work : Weekdays any time after 2 : 30PM until as late as 9 : 30PM depending on the program, shift and location / weekends start as early as 10 : 30AM until as late as 7 : 30PM depending on the program, shift and location.
Responsibilities :
- Actively participates in creating a high-energy team ensuring to collaborate and communicate effectively with all team members.
- Assists team lead in the planning of creative and engaging program, activities, and special events.
- Promotes inclusion and belonging by seeking youth input on program ideas and ensuring the safe engagement of all participants.
- Brings your energy and enthusiasm to deliver creative and engaging youth programming.
- Actively participates in the delivery of program plans, leading various youth activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games, etc.
- Positively supports youth in their efforts to try new activities, develop new skills.
- Rolemodels positive behavior for youth (teamwork, responsibility, initiative, and sportsmanship).
- Supervises participants at all times and, as a team, address unsafe and unacceptable behavior.
- Assists youth participants to work together to resolve problems and conflicts.
- Ensures safety and cleanliness of program area and program equipment.
- Assists with the set-up and take-down of program equipment and supplies.
- Ensures safe use, condition, and storage of equipment.
- Completes records and reports including program registration, accident / incident reports, damage reports, and safety checklists.
- Provides first aid as required.
- Proudly represents the City of Kitchener by providing quality programming and customer service.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements :
- Minimum level of education - completion or partial completion of secondary school education (or the equivalent).
- Minimum 1 month of related experience preferred.
- Minimum age requirement - must be at least 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment.
- Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) issued after August 1,2024 upon conditional offer.
- Mobile skatepark leaders must be able to lift and carry up to 35lbsindependently and be able to travel to various locations across the city each week.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
