Reporting to a designated Supervisor, the Assistant Design Coordinator, Architectural and Civil will :
- Assist designated supervisor in the design, co-ordination and production of technical documentation for construction of maintenance and other building projects;
- Liase with various public organizations or agencies concerning schools; and
- Act as a resource to schools and other Board facilities.
Summary of Duties :
- Ø Provide assistance to the designated supervisor in the design, coordination and production of technical information for renewal projects and other building projects;
- Ø Prepare sketch plans for discussion with the stakeholders;
- Ø Coordinate designs with the other major disciplines ( Mechanical and Electrical);
- Ø Coordinate designs of outside consultants and meet on a regular basis to ensure their design development is on budget and on time;
- Ø Responsible for detailed investigation, analysis of requirements, provision of detailed engineering, design principles and techniques as required;
- Ø Meet with stakeholders to review the program, address their needs and provide professional advice;
- Ø Ensure that design development will meet approved budgets and schedules;
- Ø Conduct regular review with consultants;
- Ø Meet with construction supervisors to review and resolve design problems;
- Ø Review in-house production documentation to ensure that design intent has been maintained;
- Ø Coordinate design documentation for site plan approval with consultants as necessary;
- Ø Correspond or meet with authorities having jurisdiction regarding Building Code and other requirements;
- Ø Prepare preliminary draft reports for review;
Ø Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
Ø Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Ø University degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering with structural specialty with five years of progressively responsible related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Ø Membership in Ontario Association of Architects or Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario; or Association of Architectural Technician or Technologist of Ontario;
- Ø Experience monitoring and coordinating the work of outside consultants;
- Ø Ability to design organized spaces to meet program needs;
- Ø Ability to coordinate the work of other disciplines ( Mechanical, Electrical and Structural);
- Ø Familiarity with the Ontario Building code;
- Ø Understanding of building components and construction;
- Ø Proficient computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, word-processing, presentation packages and email;
- Ø Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, outside contractors, suppliers, etc.;
Ø Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
Ø Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Special Requirements :
Ø Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
Ø Requires travel to TDSB sites on a regular basis.
Ø Requires wearing safety equipment ( safety shoes, hard hats) when visiting construction sites.
Location : 15 Oakburn Crescent (Hybrid Work Eligible)
Work Year : 12 months
