Our client is a specialized private debt firm providing financing solutions secured by government grants and tax credits.

They help innovative businesses leverage government incentives to achieve their growth objectives by offering tailored financial products.

We are seeking an Analyst to join the underwriting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing credit risk, evaluating the financial health of applicants, and analyzing the quality of government programs used as collateral for our loans.

Responsibilities :

  • Relationship management for onboarding and intake of new borrowing clients while reviewing their loan applications.
  • Evaluate the risk profile of each loan transaction, identifying potential issues and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
  • Perform financial analysis of loan applicants, including historical financial performance, balance sheet strength, and cash flow sustainability.
  • Assess the quality of government grants and tax credits proposed as collateral as well as borrower eligibility and compliance with the requirements of these government programs.
  • Prepare and present underwriting reports that summarize credit risk assessments, financial analysis, and program evaluations and suggest loan terms.
  • Work with external counsel on legal document preparation for new loans.
  • Assist in the ongoing monitoring of the loan portfolio, identifying emerging risks and recommending proactive measures to protect the firm’s interests.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • CFA Candidate or interest in pursuing
  • 1-2 years of experience in credit analysis, financial analysis, or underwriting, ideally within private debt, commercial lending, or a related sector.
  • Knowledge of government grant and tax credit programs, particularly SR&ED and IRAP would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
