The Department of Health and Society (DHS) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Health Informatics.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Biostatistics, Data Science, Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, Biomedical Engineering, or a relevant discipline by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter.

We seek candidates who have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching (both large lecture-style and smaller seminar settings).

The candidate is expected to build strong connections with the new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health ( SAMIH ).

The successful candidate will have teaching interests that complement and broaden our existing departmental and campus strengths and priorities.

Candidates must have experience teaching health informatics in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, TA management and mentorship, and development of online instructional material.

Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to work within an interdisciplinary department that values collaboration across discipline, rank, and method.

We are interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to increasing access to post-secondary education experiences.

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching and the capacity to teach a wide range of courses in the area of health informatics such as health data analytics, machine learning and AI, health information systems, public health, Canadian health policy, applied statistics for public health, electronic health record management and data analysis, quantitative methods and statistical techniques for health research, epidemiology, community health and health equity, genomic science, health technology assessment, user-experience design for healthcare, and related topics.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching beginner and advanced undergraduate courses in the health sciences, particularly in health informatics;
  • fulfilling administrative activities related to teaching and student success; participating in and eventually leading curriculum development;

and contributing to program and departmental initiatives, particularly those that promote access to post-secondary education experiences.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and the capacity to teach a wide range of courses in the area of health informatics as well as the commitment to excellent pedagogical practices can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, leading workshops or seminars, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
