LINB29H3 - Quantitative Methods in Linguistics - Winter 2025

Course description : An introduction to experimental design and statistical analysis for linguists. Topics include both univariate and multivariate approaches to data analysis for acoustic phonetics, speech perception, psycholinguistics, language acquisition, language disorders, and sociolinguistics.

Salary : In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be :

Sessional Lecturer I : $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term : $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II : $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer III : $10,362.76

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

TA Support (est.) : 60 hours of TA support

Minimum Qualifications : Ph.D. in Linguistics, Psychology or a closely related discipline. Strong academic record and professional promise.

Expert knowledge of R and statistics required. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience teaching LINB29H3 or a comparable course in statistics.

Duties : All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content;

development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.

This course will take place in-person at UTSC during the Winter term (Jan - Apr). All positions involve the completion of all course grading.
