OMVIC is currently searching fora Communication Specialist for our Toronto corporate office.
Who is OMVIC?
OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario's vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery.
OMVIC's mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers.
- This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer / salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used);
- providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing / delivering consumer and dealer education / awareness programs;
and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

Role Summary :
The Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in the development and execution of OMVIC's internal and external communication strategies.
This role involves collaborating with the Communications Team to produce high-quality and engaging written materials tailored for a variety of publications and diverse internal and external audiences, ensuring clarity and consistency in messaging.
This role will develop and execute consumer awareness, media relations, and public relations strategies. Additionally, the Communications Specialist is responsible for tracking, supporting, and managing communications projects and initiatives aimed at promoting consumer awareness, ensuring timely and effective execution.
Responsibilities :
- Lead, develop and implement communication plans and develop compelling stories to support OMVIC's business priorities including the seamless experience and coordination across all OMVIC and partner channels
- Conduct research and analysis of current trends and identify proactive communication opportunities
- Collaborate with internal teams across the organization to support communication needs
- Approach content from a strategic lens ensuring copy delivers on business and project goals and aligns to communication strategies
- Write, edit and publish high-quality and engaging materials for a variety of publications and audiences, both internal and external ensuring clarity and consistency in messaging
- Track, support, and manage communications projects and initiatives aimed at promoting consumer awareness and education including the development and oversight of critical paths, resource coordination and channel coordination
- Implement public relations strategies
- Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, responding to media inquiries, and coordinating interviews
- Develop and manage internal communication strategies
- Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, using metrics to inform future initiatives and provide regular reports on activities
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans
- Work with outside vendors and agencies on projects and campaigns
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related discipline
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in communications required
- Experience working with a regulatory body or delegated administrative authority an asset
- Strong working knowledge of communication principles and practices
- Superior presentation / public speaking skills
- Exceptional oral, written, interpersonal communication, storytelling, project and editorial abilities
- Bilingual in French highly desirable
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, media monitoring software, Google analytics, and other public relations tools
- Able to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to attend events or conduct presentations throughout Ontario
- Possess valid G driver's license an asset
- Travel may be required
