What’s the job?
As a Canadian HR / Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and fostering a healthy work environment within the organization.
Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of HR functions with a primary focus on safety measures, employee welfare, and regulatory adherence.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with Canadian regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
- Coordinate safety training sessions for employees and managers to raise awareness and promote a culture of safety.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and authorities to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
- Stay updated on Canadian labor laws and regulations, ensuring all HR practices are compliant.
- Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and facilitating the selection process.
- Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
- Administer employee benefits programs and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Act as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related inquiries, issues, and concerns.
- Coordinate employee wellness programs and initiatives to promote physical and mental well-being in the workplace.
- Facilitate employee development and training programs to enhance skills and career advancement opportunities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures tailored to Canadian laws and organizational needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to safety incidents, HR transactions, and employee information.
- Prepare reports and analysis related to HR metrics, safety performance, and compliance activities for management review.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations when handling sensitive employee information.

What do you bring?
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration, or a related field
- 4+ years proven experience in HR and safety management
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian labor laws, safety regulations, and best practices
- Proven experience in a Unionized Industry
- Proficiency in HRIS software and MS Office suite
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is Required
- Canadian Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP) is Preferred
- Canadian Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is Preferred
