Position Summary

Administrative Component :

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, this Coordinator, Health Information Management position is accountable for the administration, coordination, planning and budgeting of the Health Information Management clerical services provided within their respective Health Services Delivery Area (HSDA).

Primarily using technology available for distance communications, this position will travel when appropriate to communities where HIM clerical staff are located.

Reporting to the Manager, Health Info Mgmt. - NI on administrative matters; will advise on budgets, workload, labour relations and personnel.

Responsible for interpreting and implementing all institutional regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to HIM clerical services.

Professional Leader Component :

Responsible for ensuring that clerical standards for Health Information Management are consistent with regulatory, accrediting body standards and relevant legislation.

Provides professional practice guidance to department personnel and other staff / disciplines on matters specific to Records Management, Release of Information and Registration practices.

Advises Manager, Health Info Mgmt. - NI on matters regarding those Services. Responsible for ensuring high quality, accurate and timely clerical service delivery is achieved via Records Management, Release of Information and Registration practices in within the respective HSDA of Northern Health.

Shift Rotation / Hours of work : Monday to Friday, Days, 08 : 00 to 16 : 00

University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the largest Acute Care facility within the Northern Health region, and a hub for specialized health services.

It's also a teaching hospital :

  • Provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, run by the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.
  • Hosts residents in UBC's Family Practice Residency Program
  • Is a key clinical education site for nursing and many health sciences students at UNBC, the College of New Caledonia, BCIT and other institutions.

UHNBC has benefited from nearly $100 million in expansions, renovations and new equipment since 2001 :

  • Patient care addition with an expanded emergency room and updated ICU
  • State-of-the-art maternal-child care centre (including a single room neonatal ICU)
  • Facilities to accommodate undergraduate physician training
  • MRI unit

UHNBC is also home to a cancer centre for Northern BC, featuring a wide range of cancer treatments including radiation therapy.

Qualfications

  • Graduation from a recognized Health Information Management program.
  • Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management and eligible for active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association, plus five years recent related experience including three years in a supervisory capacity and post-basic training in management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current valid BC Driver's License.

  • Knowledge Integration : Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Communication : Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using, oral written and computer communication means.

Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.

Critical Thinking : Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively.

Applies the problem-solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systems approach.

  • Teamwork : Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
  • Teaching : Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Equipment : Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Cerner and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools.

Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
