Job Summary

The role of Expert Solution / System Integration is to drive software development and integration of next generation of Railroad Industry's Energy Management Solutions.

These solutions integrate with advanced infrastructures; telecom networks; industrial IoT, software development platforms;

application and technology driven solutions. The expert ensures that all business requirements are fulfilled by the project team, and also contributes to the global evolution of CN's I&T.

Clients can be from within I&T and / or direct interaction with internal business partners. Considerable emphasis is given to leading technical interactions with 3rd party software development partners.

The Expert must connect the dots between application, telecom, infrastructure, and business processes. The key is to ensure that the technology delivered is secure, reliable, available, resilient, performant, and aligned with safety standards as per business requirements.

The Expert works with teams and stakeholders across CN and across the industry. To be successful, the person needs strong influential skills in order to align stakeholders and Integrators with the goals set by CN leadership.

Main Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Contribute to solution designs by identifying the existing capabilities and sharing it with Solution / System Designers.
• Provide guidance on required deployment tasks.
• Estimate the overall solution costs (e.g. telecom, S&C, vendor, infrastructure, development, etc.) and share information with the Project Manager and stakeholders.
• Create technical diagrams and find ways to improve them.
• Work with Project Managers during the planning phases and identify skillsets and challenges applicable to deployments.
• Deploy solutions based on the Service Catalog within domain(s) of expertise and feed the Architecture teams when solutions are not available.

Technology Innovation Leadership

• Support and supervise change controls done by less experienced team members.
• Lab-test new configurations and software. Feedback to manufacturers to fix issues.
• Investigate incidents through root-cause analysis and propose solutions for remediation.
• Lead activities to transfer new solutions to the Operational Support teams (T2C).
• Develop strong partnerships with Solution / System Designers to provide feedback on deployment challenges / gaps.
• Interact with vendors to address present and upcoming requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to Solution and Systems Specialists.
• Drive design decisions that span multiple teams.
• Continuously assess technical issues and report challenges to Sr. Manager.
• Provide expert advice to stakeholders.

Skills Development and Sharing

• Explore advanced technologies with the potential to improve the efficiency, reliability and security of CN's applications, infrastructure, Industrial IoT, or network technologies, and services.
• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge in domains relevant his / her to responsibilities.
• Define processes and mechanisms to establish structured system deployment and integration.
• Provide learning sessions to team members and drive learning sessions done by others.
• Exchange about new technologies and applications with Solution designers and Architects.
• Collaborate with Expert Solution / System Designers / Integrators to develop new solutions and expose them to stakeholders.

Education / Certification / Designation

Bachelor degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent degree and experience

• Ability to clarify requirements and ensure solution meets business needs.

• Minimum 10-15 years overall work experience
• Minimum 8 years experience in roles involving complex hardware / software systems and advanced telecommunications technologies.
• Minimum 5 years demonstrating technical leadership qualities and / or overseeing deliverables

Assets

• Agile coach certification; or
• Agile scrum master certification; or
• Kanban practitioner.
• Railroad Technology experience
