Job Summary

The Team

The Vancouver / Richmond After Hours Response Team (AHRT) provides crucial afterhours, weekend, and holiday support to Centralized Screening and District offices in Richmond, UBC, Vancouver, and North Vancouver.

This team, established in 2017, responds to immediate or 24-hour files and handles action requests from District offices for fieldwork within the area, including those flagged by Vancouver Police under the Car 86 program.

AHRT is comprised of two mini-teams, each with one team leader and three social workers, operating on a 7-on-7-off rotation, supported by seven auxiliary workers and one office manager.

Collaboration with Vancouver Police (Car 86), Richmond RCMP (Yankee 30), and patrol members from various police departments is integral.

The team's work ensures the immediate safety of children and families during emergent situations, with a focus on cooperation and extensive collective experience, fostering an environment of strong coordination and community impact.

The Role

The Child Protection Worker, After Hours Response (7on 7off) role offers immediate support to clients during moments of extreme crisis or conflict, making a significant and tangible impact on their lives.

Job Requirements :

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

1. Preferred Credentials :

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or Bachelor's Degree or higher in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology / Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials :

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major / Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate / Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
  • PLUS , a minimum of one (1) year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include : Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Additional Experience Requirements :

  • One (1) year of experience in child protection and / or child welfare.
  • Full delegation or immediately eligible upon hire to obtain C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Preferred education credentials AND / OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Two (2) years or more of experience in child protection and / or child welfare.
  • Experience in child protection and / or child welfare gained within the past five (5) years.

Please note :

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • Must be screened and approved by VPD and RCMP to participate in the Ministry / Police partnership cars (Car 86, Yankee 30).

About this Position :

This is a temporary opportunity until July 31, 2025. This position may be extended or become permanent.

This temporary posting is not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.

The positions have full time on-site requirements.

Part time employees may be considered.

The position headquarters will be Vancouver.

This position is on a 7 day on 7 day off shift rotation working three (3) 11 hour shifts and four (4) 9.25 hour shifts to equal 70 hours in a one week period.

This includes weeknights, weekends, and stat holidays when the regular government office is closed.

Regular travel is a requirement of the position as it serves the following locations : Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay and Richmond.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
