Your Opportunity :

Reporting to the Care Manager of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Pain Program, Chronic Pain Centre, the physiotherapist I is responsible for assessing and implementing direct treatment to address physical impairments and functional limitations of patients with chronic pain.

The physiotherapist works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide patient-centred care, education and research in collaboration with other AHS programs, community partners and stakeholders.

Description :

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline.

You will provide intervention ( prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities.

You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.

The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies.

  • You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement;
  • partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community;

participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications :

Minimum of two years of clinical experience. Musculoskeletal (MSK) physical assessment and treatment skills.Proficient with low back : lumbar spine and sacro-iliac joint physical exam and treatment.

Canadian Orthopedic Division Level II Upper / Lower Quadrant or equivalent courses.Knowledge of modalities that promote active coping, active self-management, and active participation.

Knowledge of ergonomic principles & application.Effective teaching skills for clients, colleagues and students.Experience working effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

Excellent communication skills verbal and written.Proficiency in Connect Care.Previous teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience treating patients with post traumatic headache / concussion, ortho & chronic pain pts, neuropathic pain, vestibular therapy, fibromyalgia, limb pain, Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, and pelvic physio.

Advanced ortho & functional rehab courses. Trauma-informed practice. Experience treating patients with co-morbidities & psychological disorders.

Proficiency working within a self-management and CBT paradigm. Non-violent crisis intervention training.
