THE OPPORTUNITY : MANAGER, FOOD SERVICES Overseeing the food services program and providing nutritious food to Vancouver students Join our team as Manager, Food Services of VSB Operated Cafeterias, with operational oversight for 11 cafeterias operated by the Vancouver School District.
Vancouver’s large, urban and multicultural school district provides programs to more than 50,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
This includes offering food services to over 5,000 elementary and secondary students each day, including the Food4School, Lunch and Breakfast Programs, which provide meals to vulnerable students.
In this role, you will be responsible to manage all business operations for food safety and regulatory compliance and to maintain and operate commercial food equipment and oversee the capital infrastructure in commercial kitchens.
With a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, Food Science or Dietetics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as well as at least 5 years’ experience managing in a unionized work environment you bring exceptional organizational skills to this role.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance, you will coordinate operational oversight and provide support for approximately 40 cafeteria support staff, provide monthly financial and operational reports to the district, coordinate food safety regulatory standards and implement the District Food Safe Plan in VBE-Operated Cafeterias.
In this position, you will also supervise Food4School production kitchen sites at multiple secondary school cafeterias to produce approximately 100 600 meals per day.
You will supervise production staff to prepare these meals in accordance with a set district menu and in coordination with the district’s Culinary Arts Teaching Program.
Your strong analytical skills will facilitate the development of systems to implement controls in order to maintain safe food environments in accordance with regulatory standards in compliance with Federal Safety Standards, Food Safe, Healthy Eating and the City of Vancouver and WorkSafe and Building Standards.
Your proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook as well as other computerized programs for food orders, inventory and point of sale will enable you to expertly administer food and supply contracts and coordinate consolidated supply orders, receipt of goods, cafeteria inventory controls and invoice approval for the Food4School and cafeteria programs.
You will also be responsible for coordinating business data collection for cafeteria operations. COMPENSATION The salary for this position is $113,138 - $133,104 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including, Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, Gratuity, and potential Compensatory time.
