Assistant Accounting Manager

The Assistant Accounting Manager will work closely with the Finance Manager and oversee the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with all regulatory standards.
This role involves both leadership and accounting functions, with a focus on financial analysis, compliance, and team development.
The Assistant Accounting Manager will also provide strategic support and play a key role in driving digital financial transformation projects.
Your success will be defined by your ability to :
Accounting Functions :
- Perform detailed financial analysis on project costing and revenue.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare reports comparing actual costs to standard benchmarks (per unit cost / activity-based costing).
- Support strategic decision-making through in-depth financial analysis.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and propose cost-saving initiatives.
- Manage full-cycle accounting operations, including government remittances (GST / PST, payroll, corporate tax).
- Oversee monthly reconciliations of bank statements and general ledger.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
- Monitor variances between actual results and budget forecasts, providing actionable insights.
- Ensure accuracy in financial records and adherence to accounting standards (ASPE) and internal controls.
Leadership :
- Mentor and coach accounting staff, ensuring efficient day-to-day department operations.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of team members.
- Deliver high-quality customer service to internal stakeholders and departments.
- Manage performance reviews, development plans, and resource allocation for direct reports.
Strategic Support :
- Contribute to the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Play a key role in the company’s financial digital transformation efforts.
- Serve as a liaison with external auditors, ensuring compliance and readiness for audits.
Your strengths include :
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field.
- CPA designation (or currently working towards) is an asset.
- At least 5 years of general accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proficient in financial software (Sage, MS Suite) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
