Position Summary
BCIT’s Facilities and Campus Development department is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Manager, Facilities Services (Specialty Campuses).
This position is responsible for developing and managing the maintenance, operations and capital renewal functions of the BCIT specialty campuses.
Oversees mechanical, electrical, general trades and contractors. Duties & Responsibilities KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Using sound preventative maintenance programs, ensures that all facilities are functioning safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws and codes.
Ensures sound energy management practices are established and maintained within the maintenance environment.
Manages maintenance upgrades and renovation projects. Directs consultants and contractors in the implementation of minor capital projects.
Establishes good work control practices, ensuring that maintenance priorities and customer needs are optimized with the available resources.
Assists in developing processes for efficient operation of services to improve business processes.
- Develops maintenance project planning database and project scope delivery for all specialty campuses. Supports the plan towards full implementation of a computerized maintenance management system for all facility assets.
- Assists in developing and overseeing operational and capital expenses budgets. Engages in continuous process improvement to streamline financial processes.
Optimizes to monitor, track, and support financial activities.
Liaises with Safety, Security and Emergency Management (SSEM) department to develop best practices in safety from relevant industry sectors.
Develops operational contingency plans for all specialty campuses. Ensures BCIT meets regulatory compliance and follows sound health and safety practices.
- Oversees consultants and contractors, including hiring, training, developing and managing performance.
- After-hours on-call responsibilities to be shared with other managers in Facilities Services.
- Participates in professional organizations and keeps current on state-of-the-art initiatives in the field of practice.
Performs other activities and tasks as required and assigned by the Director, Facilities Services.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS :
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related discipline.
- Three to five years of current managerial experience in a facilities or manufacturing environment, preferably in a unionized setting.
- Field Safety Representative certification is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Training and experience in facilities management, preventative maintenance, project management and building trades, including building codes, industry standards and procedures.
- Strong background in accounting and finance.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others with a proven ability to build effective work teams.
- Proven ability to plan and implement change, especially process improvements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of customers and create systems and processes that maximize customer service.
