The Division also manages the assets of the CN Pension Plan for Senior Management and the BC Rail Pension Plan.

Current Opportunity

The Division is continuing its transformational journey as it expands the complexity of its asset mix and investment strategies while optimizing the post-implementation of SimCorp Dimension, a global leading investment management system. To support these advancements, the Division is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled technical professional with expertise in systems analysis and portfolio management solutions implementation to drive innovation and enhance operational efficiency.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Operations Solutions, the ideal candidate is a creative and solutions-oriented problem-solver with an ability to design, implement, and support technical solutions that drive business success. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders across Investment Management and Investment Operations to translate business needs into detailed requirements and solution designs, implement enhancements to portfolio management systems, and partner with system developers to ensure solutions effectively address organizational requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with business partners, project manager, system vendor, technical resources, and business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to solve issues and enhance investment technology solutions for various stakeholders including Investment Management, Middle Office, Investment Accounting, and Performance Measurement and Attribution teams
  • Manage cross-functional processes and lead strategic and complex initiatives
  • Analyze solution design options, considering costs, efforts, business impacts, and trade-offs
  • Serve as a liaison between technical teams and business units, ensuring clear communication of requirements
  • Perform detailed analysis to identify system requirements, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Recommend technology solutions to resolve problems and enhance workflows
  • Assist project managers with task structuring and prioritization
  • Provide timely project updates, addressing issues, and risks
  • Collaborate with developers and vendors on system changes and implementations
  • Participate in user acceptance and quality assurance testing on system and process changes and upgrades
  • Document business processes, workflows, and solution designs
  • Provide expertise on key systems including SimCorp, Snowflake, PowerBI, and Sigma
  • Stay up to date with latest process and operation systems advancements to automate and modernize systems and processes
  • Foster a collaborative environment across teams and departments

Professional Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Accounting, or Finance related discipline
  • CMA, CFA, or CPA designations, an asset
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the investment technology sector with hands on experience with implementing and enhancing portfolio management solutions (i.e., SimCorp, Bloomberg AIM, MSCI BarraOne)
  • Hands on experience in areas of system-to-system interfaces, data warehousing, portfolio management system configurations, analytical / report development, version upgrades, etc.
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of investment products (equities, fixed income, credit market, foreign exchange, over-the-counter market, derivatives), transaction lifecycles, investment accounting principles, and data points
  • Experience working at an investment software vendor or technology department of an investment firm, an asset
  • Technically adepts (e.g., SQL, VBA, relational databases, report building, data modelling)
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams) and Jira Software
  • Desirable Skills and Aptitudes

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present clear, professional materials to various stakeholders
  • Experience or exposure to agile frameworks (Kanban, Scrum), an asset
  • Bilingual (French and English)
