Role Overview

As a Program Development Specialist Co-op, you will play a pivotal role in developing program components that provide access to life-changing education and career opportunities for talented individuals from First Nations communities. Your primary focus will be to identify and solve barriers to access by conducting thorough research and analysis. You will develop solutions to help these individuals overcome challenges and tap into existing opportunities in Canada.

You will collaborate closely with community leaders, educators, and stakeholders to ensure that the programs meet the needs and values of First Nations communities. Additionally, you will assist in engaging employers to develop potential career pathways for our candidates, contributing to the program's future success and sustainability. Your efforts will directly support the creation of meaningful education and career opportunities and foster economic empowerment within First Nations communities.

Key Responsibilities :

Research and Problem Solving :

  • Identify Barriers :
  • Conduct in-depth research to understand the challenges preventing First Nations individuals from accessing existing career and educational opportunities.
  • Analyze socioeconomic, cultural, and systemic factors contributing to these barriers.
  • Develop Solutions :
  • Create clear, strategic programs with actionable plans aimed at overcoming identified obstacles.
  • Explore funding options, support services, and partnerships that can facilitate access.

Sector Engagement

  • Identify and engage employers, universities and colleges willing to provide career opportunities to program participants.
  • Develop partnerships that create clear career pathways for candidates.
  • Understand employer hiring needs and align program objectives accordingly.
  • Collaborate with universities, colleges, and education providers to create educational pathways.
  • Candidate Support :

  • Develop strategies to source and attract talented individuals from First Nations communities.
  • Assist candidates in navigating application and enrollment processes.
  • Connect candidates with mentorship opportunities and resources.
  • Administrative Support :

  • Maintain comprehensive records of program plans, research findings, and stakeholder communications.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination of events, and other day-to-day tasks related to program development.
  • Qualifications :

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
  • Strong analytical abilities to identify challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • Creative thinking in designing programs that address complex issues.
  • Deep understanding of First Nations cultures, histories, and communities.
  • Respectful and sensitive approach to community engagement.
  • Proficient in presenting ideas and facilitating discussions.
  • Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong listening skills to understand and incorporate community feedback.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities.
