SCOPE :

Director, Research & Policy – Permanent, Full-Time – Fully Remote

The Director, Research & Policy is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and execution of CNA’s research, policy development, and advocacy initiatives. This role combines leadership in nursing research, policy analysis, and healthcare advocacy, with a focus on influencing key healthcare policies and advancing nursing practice. The Director will guide CNA’s efforts to address critical issues in healthcare, such as workforce development, accessibility, and Indigenous health, ensuring that CNA’s policy agenda reflects current trends and emerging needs in healthcare systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and execution of research and policy strategies, aligned with CNA goals.
  • Guide the development of high-quality research outputs, including reports, policy papers, and position statements.
  • Foster collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials, researchers, and nursing organizations, to shape policy at national, provincial, and international levels.
  • Advise the CEO on emerging trends and policy opportunities to inform decision-making.
  • Lead advocacy efforts to promote nursing practice and healthcare accessibility, especially regarding Indigenous health issues.
  • Represent CNA in policy discussions, meetings, and conferences to ensure CNA’s voice is heard.
  • Oversee project implementation, ensuring alignment with CNA’s objectives, and evaluate the success of policy initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in nursing, health policy, health administration, or a related field (PhD or other doctoral level degree is highly desirable).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of direct clinical experience in nursing profession.
  • In addition to clinical experience, minimum of eight (8) years of experience in healthcare policy development, research, or advocacy, with a strong background in nursing leadership.
  • Fluency in both English and French is preferred.
  • KEY COMPETENCIES

  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare policy and the legislative landscape in Canada, with a particular focus on nursing practice and health systems.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex policy issues and advocate for CNA’s positions to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare leaders, researchers, and advocacy partners.
  • Strategic thinking with a demonstrated ability to anticipate emerging trends and develop proactive policy responses.
  • SALARY SCALE :

  • Benchmarked to market value.
  • Commensurate with education / experience.
  • prorated based on hours worked
  • HOURS OF WORK :

  • 70 hours over a 2 week pay period
  • Able to work within a flexible framework to respond to association needs and / or attend events (e.g., evenings or weekends).
