Temporary (14 Week Term), Full time, On Site
The City of Medicine Hat is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Archives & Education Assistant to support archival organization and preservation. This temporary position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in archival work, working both with historical records and digital environments.
As part of the team, you'll assist in arranging archival materials, improving public access to historical records, conducting research, and performing preventative conservation. If you're looking to develop your skills in a professional setting while contributing to the preservation of local history, this role is a great fit.
Your key responsibilities
- Assist the Archivist in documenting, organizing, and maintaining archival materials.
- Create inventories and maintain databases of archival collections.
- Support reference services and provide information on archival materials.
- Assist with special events and projects.
- Collaborate with volunteers and community partners.
What you bring
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Excellent written communication skills.Experience in digital environments, including databases, Microsoft 365, scanners, and Photoshop Elements.Knowledge of archival practices and community history.Teamwork mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.Qualifications
Currently enrolled in Museum Studies, Archives, Education, Library Science, or Canadian History from a recognized post-secondary institution.Available to work a full-time schedule from May to August.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Why join us?
