The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of TRUMPF Canada. This role focuses on managing internal controls, optimizing financial processes, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements (Canadian and German GAAP).
Key responsibilities include managing journal entries, invoicing, AR / AP, with some payroll oversight, tax management, and audit coordination.
The role emphasizes treasury and cash flow management, requiring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Senior Accountant Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements through robust internal controls and process optimization.
- Oversee all aspects of accruals, reconciliations, transaction postings, invoicing, deposits, and government remittances.
- Monitor and manage treasury and cash flow, ensuring effective working capital management.
- Prepare and submit regular financial reports, including monthly variance analyses, to management.
- Respond promptly to internal and external audit inquiries and assist with audit processes.
- Close collaboration with the Finance Shared Service Organization in the US to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting to the Headquarter in Germany.
Process Development & Optimization
- Lead initiatives to automate and streamline financial processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
- Develop and refine financial reporting tools to support effective financial planning and analysis.
- Ensure accurate implementation and adherence to revenue and cost recognition rules for accrual accounting in line with corporate accounting standards.
Tax & Compliance
- Oversee tax compliance and ensure timely submission of all required tax filings, including coordination of external tax consultants.
- Manage interactions with tax authorities, ensuring adherence to local and international tax regulations.
Accounts Payable & Collections
- Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Oversee collections to maintain positive cash flow and minimize outstanding receivables.
- Collaborate with sales and operation teams to resolve billing or payment issues.
Experience & Education
- Minimum of 5 years of senior accounting experience, preferably in a multinational sales environment.
- Proven proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables and complex formulas.
- Experience with financial planning, reporting, and analysis, including the development of financial reporting tools.
- Familiarity with ERP systems is essential; experience with AccountEdge is highly desirable.
- Strong aptitude for automating financial processes and streamlining workflows.
- Experience with German GAAP accounting would be helpful
