TITLE : PEST CONTROL ADVISOR
LOCATION : BAKERSFIELD, CA
COMPENSATION : $66,560 / YEAR
PURPOSE :
To serve as a staff Pest Control Advisor (PCA) in the Organic Farming Division, working with Agronomists, Farm Managers, Pest Control Advisors, and other staff to develop and implement sound Integrated Pest Management practices in organic vegetable production.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Inspect various crops, analyze problems, and make recommendations regarding the prevention and control of all types of agricultural pests and diseases.
- Stay informed of new and emerging information and technology in the field of agricultural pest control, with emphasis on organic pest control.
- Participate in field trials of various pest control methods and materials.
- Maintain and update record of results.
- Observe, assist, and advise company pesticide applicators in proper calibration and use of spray equipment.
- Work with governmental agencies with respect to compliance with laws and regulations.
- Maintain PCA license by completing required continuing education hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to regularly move inside the office or growing fields. Ability to operator a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work on uneven terrain both on foot and while aboard moving equipment. Ability to get on and off various stationary and moving equipment. Ability to continuously work outdoors in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Ability to inspect product and equipment at ground level. Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field is required.3-5 years of field experience preferred.Must possess a valid California Agricultural Pest Control Adviser License or ability to obtain one within six months of hiring date.Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) is a plus.Knowledge of agricultural pest control and production practices required.Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.Strong verbal and analytical skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.Some travel may be required depending on business needs, particularly seasonal travel.Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.Must pass pre-placement drug / alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.Benefits
