ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Part Time Team Leader , under the direction of the Dining Services Manager and Dining Services Supervisor is responsible for supervision, scheduling and oversight of dining room team of delivery and serving of meals to residents and guests, the cleanliness of servery, dining area, and bar area, including assignment of duties related to dining room operation in the two-day absence of the Dining Services Manager or Dining Services Supervisor.

Dining Services Attendant is responsible for the delivery and service of meals to the residents, the cleanliness of the dietary areas and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations, and assigned duties related to food preparation, when required.

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of grade 12 education with good oral and written skills in English. A thorough knowledge of food and beverage service is required, with two years’ previous experience in a similar position in a hotel / restaurant or institutional setting.

Basic computer knowledge with Microsoft Office. Food Handling Certificates required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TEAM LEADER

  • Participates in, and contributes to, the residence’s Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Assists the Dining Services Manager in the recruitment, selection, orientation and training of new server staff.
  • Assists with coordinating catering functions.
  • Handlesscheduling for servers in the absence of the Dining Services Management.
  • Provides direction for scheduled work duties of servers ensuring that dining service meets, or surpasses, accepted standards.

Completes daily work assignment sheet.

  • Meets and greets residents upon arrival to dining room and seats them appropriately.
  • Co-ordinates ordering and keeping track of food inventory.
  • Provides input to Dining Services Manager regarding discipline of staff according to approved procedures.
  • Participates in the performance appraisal process with the manager of all servers on an annual basis.
  • Ensures that meal service is carried out in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Co-ordinates set-up, service, and cleaning of catering functions.
  • Ensures that the appropriate action is taken to resolve conflicts in the dining room either between residents or between residents and staff.
  • Monitors and participates in the cleanliness of dining room furnishings, china, glassware, cutlery and table linens and takes corrective action when required.
  • Monitors and participates in proper standards for table set-up, food service, and table clearing which conform to all sanitary and safety regulations, and dining services standards.
  • Co-ordinates and administers all resident and guest food chits.
  • Provides assistance to servers as required.
  • Ensures that dining room, serving station, and bar area are cleaned, vacuumed and sanitized after each meal period.
  • Participates in department in-services and meetings as required, including the resident food committee.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems.

This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.

  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training / education.
  • Provides coverage for Dining Services Supervisor in his / her absence
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or delegated by the Dining Services Manager or members of the departmental management team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR DINING SERVICES ATTENDANT

  • Participates in and contributes to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program.
  • Serves meals in the dining room to residents and guests.
  • Sets dining room tables, and clears the dining room of dishes, utensils, etc.
  • Cleans and vacuums dining room as required.
  • Washes dishes, pots, and cleans kitchen equipment and area, as assigned according to established cleaning procedures. Sanitizes dishwasher area after each meal.
  • Handles vouchers for meal guests.
  • Serves snacks.
  • Portions desserts for serving in the dining room.
  • Receives and stores food supplies.
  • Provides assistance to the cook in the preparation of food and assembly of salad / sandwich plates, as assigned.
  • Maintains effective communication, both written and verbal with co-workers. Uses the appropriate lines of communication with supervisory staff.
  • Performs other dietary related tasks as assigned.
  • Complies with other infection control protocols as directed, e.g. outbreak management.
  • Attends appropriate in-service education opportunities within the residence.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required annual mandatory training / education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System, and Food Premises Regulations.

This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
