Chief Estimator

Job Summary : We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator / Senior Estimator – Foundations & Shoring to join our team. Ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience, extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in estimating for foundation and shoring projects, including caisson drilling, sheet pile shoring, H pile driving, micropiles, and soil anchors. This role requires expertise in take-offs, cost estimation, and bid preparation for infrastructure projects, including MTO (Ministry of Transportation Ontario) and Metrolinx projects. A strong understanding of Municipal and Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) will be asset. Preferred candidates will have experience in heavy civil construction engineering, particularly bridge foundations and roadway protection systems. Key Responsibilities : Responsible for the estimation process for foundations and shoring projects as assigned, ensuring accurate cost analysis and competitive bid proposals.Analyze project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.Develop pricing strategies and cost breakdowns for material, labor, and equipment.Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure all aspects of the project are accurately estimated.Review historical data and industry trends to enhance estimation accuracy.Assess subcontractor and supplier quotations for completeness, competitiveness, and compliance with project specifications.Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions to develop a thorough understanding of project requirements.Ensure all estimates comply with MTO, Metrolinx, and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications.Maintain and update a database of cost information for various foundation and shoring methodologies.Assist in contract negotiations and value engineering exercises to optimize project costs.Help mentor junior estimators and support the development of best practices in the estimation process.Qualifications & Experience : Min 5+ yrs of experience in estimating for foundations, shoring, & heavy civil construction projects.Experience with caisson drilling, sheet pile shoring, H pile driving, micropiles & soil anchors.Strong familiarity with MTO, Metrolinx projects & Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS).Background in heavy civil construction engineering with experience in bridge foundations highly preferred.Proven ability to develop detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for large-scale infrastructure projects.Strong applied knowledge of construction methodologies, material costs, labor pricing & equipment utilization.Strong proficiency in estimation software and tools (e.G., HCSS, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar) and MS Office applications including excel.Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and negotiation skills.Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.
