Job Description

The City of Campbell River is searching for an experienced Development Planner to join our Development Services Team as either a Planner I or Planner II .

What we offer : The rate of pay for the Planner I is $40.27 per hour and for the Planner II is $48.17 per hour based on a 35-hour work week. These are CUPE bargaining unit positions. These positions are eligible for flexible work arrangements which may include one of the following : compressed work week, earned day off or varied hours.

The Roles : As part of the Development Services team, you will be working in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment.

Planner I : Reporting to the Development Planning Manager and working with the Planner II and Senior Planner, the Planner I supports the department in responding to the majority of the day-to-day general planning enquiries and performs analysis and coordination of minor to moderately complex development proposals and interpretation of applicable land use legislation, bylaws, policies and procedures.

Planner II : Reporting to the Development Planning Manager, you will perform a wide range of professional planning duties including the analysis and processing of a broad range of development applications of varying complexity, the preparation of various types of development planning reports and studies, public presentations, and the provision of technical advice to customers inside and outside the organization.

Qualifications

For Planner I - our ideal candidate will have :

  • Undergraduate degree in Community Planning or Urban Geography, with a focus on land use planning or Urban Design, or in a discipline related to Planning.
  • Eligible for candidate membership with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC).
  • Minimum of one (1) year related experience in land use / development planning, community planning or urban design or experience working with provincial statues and regulations, related documents, and general municipal bylaws, within the last five (5) years.

For Planner II - our ideal candidate will have :

  • Undergraduate degree in Community Planning or Urban Geography, with a focus on land use planning or Urban Design, or in a discipline related to Planning.
  • Member in good standing with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) and actively pursuing full membership as a certified Registered Professional Planner.
  • Four (4) years of progressive land use or development planning experience within the last seven (7) years, preferably in a municipal setting.
