Job description

Tundra Technical Solutions has a client in Albert that is in need of a Senior Controller that will report into the Chief Administrative Officer and provide efficient and effective accounting leadership to all of Steel River Group’s operating companies. Our client helps indigenous communities in North America on building infrastructure for community and youth growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of about $12-15M(as well as growth), accounting day to day and the cash flow and budgeting of certain projects.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Manage the accounting team, including Leads and Analysts, A / R, A / P, Payroll and Administration staff
  • Ensure corporate accounting policies, procedures and controls are in accordance with GAAP, applicable regulations and laws, and best practices are followed
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries and supporting documentation, including analysis of final posted balances
  • Oversee A / P, A / R and Payroll activities of all Steel River companies
  • Accountable for the accounting of all Steel River companies
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations of the cash, equity, debt, and intercompany account balances and periodic reconciliation of other general ledger account balances
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly / annual financial statements
  • Oversee daily / monthly ERP entries
  • Ensure controls are in place to adequately monitor the company’s approvals matrix for various corporate payments
  • Responsible for monthly bank reconciliations and investigation of reconciling items for various legal entities
  • Responsible for monthly / quarterly GST / WCB / QST analysis and filings
  • Propose recommendations for process improvements to support efficiency and effectiveness of day-to-day activities
  • Provide project control functions as required
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Lead the annual audit of financial statements (and quarterly reviews) and liaise with external accountants / auditors as required
  • Contribute to other special projects as assigned
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer as assigned
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) required
  • Experience :

  • Minimum of 5-7 years related work experience in senior accounting or controller related role
  • Preference to those with a Construction Accounting background
  • Skills and Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of accounting and financial practices and standards
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills : written and verbal skills, organization abilities and proven attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • High degree of initiative and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment
