Residents are able to choose the type of accommodation that is most appropriate for their care needs and continue to live within the community of care as their needs change. Emphasis is placed on assisting residents to live life to the fullest in this dynamic residential setting.
About the Position :
The Recreation and Volunteer Services Lead is a player / coach role who works in a team-based environment to coordinate, facilitate and deliver recreation programs for Long Term Care residents. The Recreation and Volunteer Services Lead reports to the Executive Director but will collaborate and work closely with other members of the Leadership team, such as the Director of Care, Resident Life Coordinator, and Director of Nutrition Services.
Wage : 24.30-28.17 Hourly
Qualifications :
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a community college or university, or equivalent is required.
- Ability to organize work and provide leadership to a team of recreation assistants and volunteers.
- An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
- Knowledge and experience providing tailored recreational programs utilizing the five areas of need : physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual, supporting residents' interaction, emotional state, and sense of spiritual connection.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Competency in Point Click Care is an asset.
- Knowledge of community resources and enthusiasm for building, supporting, and engaging in the local community.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position / Sector Screening (VPS).
- Current Standard and / or Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Food Handlers Certificate is an asset.
Responsibilities :
Plan, organize, and implement meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Executive Director.Provide supervision to the team of Recreation Assistants and Volunteers.Coordinate hiring, training, and onboarding of recreation staff and volunteers.Work with the Resident Life Coordinator on the implementation of spiritual care programming into the recreation calendar.Build monthly activity calendars to match resident needs with a variety of activities regularly.Ensure adequate supervision and support at programs (volunteers or staffing).Maintain appropriate department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation.Work within the approved budget and provide input into annual budgeting.Build relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events.Attend in-service education to stay informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly.Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the facility Volunteer Program and actively promote the recruitment of new volunteers.Ensure orientation of volunteers meets requirements as identified in the LTCHA and RHA.Work with the Executive Director on volunteer appreciation and annual volunteer training.Collaborate with all departments to identify opportunities to engage volunteers in meeting the needs of residents.About Tri-County Mennonite Homes :
