Planiform , a leader in automated conveyor systems , is looking for a full-time Sr. Robotics Engineer to join our Terrebonne, QC team!

For over 50 years , Planiform has been a leader in designing, manufacturing, and installing automated conveyor systems for distribution centers and retail stores . Our solutions, including the HIVE and Carousel Pick Module (CPM) , help optimize operations and improve efficiency for customers across the globe.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with articulated and collaborative robots, a deep understanding of control systems, and strong proficiency in robotic frameworks. This role encompasses programming, simulation, design, and the integration of Reinforcement Learning models to create cutting-edge robotic solutions for our operations. Candidates with experience in designing and developing humanoid robots—particularly those with advanced motion control and artificial intelligence integration—are highly encouraged to apply. Expertise in developing humanoid robotic arms for complex and precise tasks will be a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design, develop, and implement robotic systems, focusing on articulated, collaborative, and humanoid robots for industrial and advanced applications.
  • Program and control robots using platforms such as Isaac Sim, ROS2, or other state-of-the-art frameworks tailored to the application.
  • Develop and integrate advanced algorithms, including Reinforcement Learning models and AI-based controls, to enhance robotic performance and autonomy.
  • Conduct simulations and testing to validate robotic designs and control strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate robotic solutions into existing workflows.
  • Research and evaluate emerging robotics technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve design and functionality.
  • Develop motion planning and locomotion algorithms for humanoid robots, focusing on gait generation, balance, and obstacle avoidance.
  • Integrate advanced sensors and actuators for responsive human-robot interaction.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to robotic systems.
  • Document designs, processes, and procedures in compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, or related fields is a strong asset.
  • Proven experience working with articulated, collaborative, and humanoid robots in industrial or research settings.
  • Proficiency in robot programming languages and environments (e.g., ROS, Python, C++, MATLAB).
  • Strong understanding of robotic control systems, kinematics, and dynamics.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Isaac Sim, Gazebo, V-REP, Webots, or similar).
  • Knowledge of Reinforcement Learning, AI models, and machine learning applications in robotics.
  • Familiarity with robotic design processes and tools (CAD, rapid prototyping, etc.).
  • Expertise in integrating advanced sensors, actuators, and embedded systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Hands-on experience with industrial robot brands (e.g., ABB, KUKA, FANUC, UR).
  • Familiarity with safety standards and risk assessment for collaborative and humanoid robotics.
  • Experience in system integration and automation workflows.
  • Exposure to IoT and smart manufacturing technologies.
  • Understanding of human-robot interaction (HRI) and user experience design.
  • Proficiency in advanced motion planning and real-time control systems.
