Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Team Lead Designer is a project lifecycle expert who is responsible for leading, designing, directing and coordinating large or multi site interior design projects to deliver unique solution for various clients and business needs. As a champion of Bennett Design interior design project processes – Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor and Close, including Pure Design™ – with the high level of detail and documentation that our firm is known for. As a role model, this person also mentors and directs a team and effectively manages client requests and relationships.

Project Work

  • Lead the design and execution of interior design projects varying in complexity from proposal through concept and development, construction phase and close out.
  • Lead all Team Meetings
  • Work to deliver team project goals through proficiency in all phases of the Project Plan methodology (Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor and Close)
  • Coordinate with outside consultants, architects, engineers and trade partners
  • Participate in client meetings and design presentations

Contract Management

  • Assign project work according to Project plan
  • Coordinate subconsultants, ensuring project deliverables are proceeding according to budget and schedule
  • Ensure project stays within scope of services as per contract
  • Maintain construction schedules, deliverables and milestones as per contract
  • Track project hours to ensure the team is completing tasks as allocated in the Project Plan
  • Provide billing status updates to Design Manager and Finance
  • Identify opportunities to issue additional service requests (ASRs) when scope of services has deviated from contract and assist with creation of the ASR
  • Formulate photo shoot strategy
  • Attend Project Feedback meeting
  • Prepare and present weekly project reporting at weekly meetings for Design Manager
  • Client Relationship Management

  • Manage client expectations and be accountable to communication project timelines, concerns and act as a supervisory client contact for escalated matters
  • Documentation and Process Quality Assurance

  • Review design development, construction documents and shop drawings for content accuracy, overall design integrity and compliance with Building Code
  • Ensure work is consistent with regulations, procedures, plans, drawings and specifications
  • Practice Risk Management as it relates to managing design projects
  • People Management

  • Mentor, guide and audit the work of all project team members for accuracy, consistency and quality
  • Champion a culture for professional advancement, recognition and reward for exceptional work
  • Responsible for workload coverage across teams
  • Responsible for supporting the creation and execution of the Individual Performance Plan (IDP) with each team member and reporting on quarterly team member check ins to Design Manager
  • Review and approve timesheets, expenses and time off requests for team members
