Job Overview
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in British Columbia, you will provide compassionate, patient-centered care within healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, residential care homes, and community settings.
Working under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician, LPNs play a critical role in delivering quality healthcare services to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care : Provide direct nursing care, including administering medications, assisting with daily activities, monitoring patient conditions, and documenting care plans.
- Health Assessments : Conduct assessments to monitor and report changes in patients' health conditions, collecting relevant health information and updating medical records accurately.
- Medication Administration : Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols and scope of practice, observing patients for adverse reactions.
- Wound Care and Dressing : Perform wound assessments, clean and dress wounds, and provide appropriate care to prevent infections and promote healing.
- Patient Education and Support : Educate patients and families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and management of chronic conditions.
Offer emotional support to patients and their families.
- Collaboration and Communication : Coordinate care with RNs, physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff to ensure holistic and seamless patient care.
- Documentation : Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed documentation of patient care, observations, and treatments to ensure continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
- Infection Control and Safety Compliance : Follow strict infection control practices and occupational safety standards to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Practical Nursing program recognized by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Current LPN license with the BCCNM.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and handle high-stress situations calmly.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is an asset.
Working Conditions
LPNs may be required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the facility.
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting or moving patients, and performing tasks that require attention to detail and manual dexterity.
