The Department of Physics in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Theoretical Biological Physics.

The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Physics or a related field by the time of appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in both research in Theoretical Biological Physics and in teaching broader areas of Physics.

We seek candidates with the demonstrated ability to lead a strong independent research program in any field of theoretical biological physics.

In addition, candidates will be encouraged to bridge their collaborations with the University of Toronto’s life science and biomedical research communities, which are among the largest and most active in North America.

The successful candidate will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, internationally competitive, and externally funded research program;

to actively engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching; and to contribute to the enrichment of undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Department’s Physics and Biological Physics Specialist undergraduate programs.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence and leadership, indicative of an established and advancing research program that is at the highest international level, as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals, a forward-looking research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong letters of endorsement from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments as described in the teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted with the application, and strong letters of reference.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We also seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement the existing strengths of the Biological Physics research cluster and will build bridges with other research clusters in the Department of Physics (see https : / / www.

physics.utoronto.ca / research ) and with the University of Toronto’s growing group of researchers working in cognate disciplines.

This new theorist will join the experimental and theoretical Biological Physics cluster at the University of Toronto’s St.

George (downtown) campus but will also contribute to the larger research cluster in this area, which includes Biological Physics theorists and experimentalists at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences .

The research setting at the University of Toronto is further enriched by having one of the largest and most active biological and biomedical research communities in North America, including several research institutes of affiliated hospitals of the University of Toronto.
