Job Title : Senior Lead Engineer, Core Platform

Location : Remote-friendly (Blaise is based in Montreal, Canada)

The Impact You'll Have :

  • Within 1 month : You’ll integrate into our team and build a deep understanding of Blaise’s core platform and architecture. You’ll begin contributing to strategic planning and technical improvements.
  • Within 3 months : You’ll lead the team to deploy enhancements to our core platform and start implementing scalable solutions to support our growing user base.
  • Within 6 months : You’ll establish sustainable engineering practices, lead major architectural initiatives, and shape the platform to better serve transit agencies across North America. This includes leveraging advanced AI technologies to build smarter, more efficient systems.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of 5-7 engineers, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture of excellence.
  • Drive the scalability and reliability of Blaise’s core platform by optimizing infrastructure and performance.
  • Build a deep understanding of business requirements to design and implement effective integrations and APIs.
  • Collaborate with researchers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define and prioritize platform features.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and high-quality delivery.
  • Lead efforts to integrate emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance platform capabilities and maintain Blaise's competitive edge.

  • 5+ years of backend development experience with expertise in Node.js and Express.js.
  • Strong knowledge of MySQL (Sequelize.js experience is a plus!).
  • Deep understanding of software architecture and design principles.
  • Skilled in AWS (ECS, EC2, S3, Lambdas) and Terraform.
  • Solid DevOps skills and experience managing CI / CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication in English (spoken and written) with a bonus if you also speak French.
  • Passionate about public transit, urbanism, and creating technology with a positive impact.
