Job Summary : We are seeking an Accounting Assistant to become an integral part of our team! This position will handle a variety of administrative duties to help support our accounting team, with a strong focus on daily administrative tasks and reporting. Candidates need to have advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite to support business needs and be self-motivated to work independently. We are seeking a very detail orientated candidate who can collaborate across multi-functional departments and teams such as customer service, sales, operations, marketing, and accounting. Duties / Responsibilities :
Support and assist the Accounting Supervisor and team in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting DepartmentPerform a variety of finance and accounting tasks related to one or more of the following functions but not limited to : accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax, record keeping, cash entries, bank reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, month- and year-end processesReceive and cost incoming product shipments, report discrepancies to the Manufacturer, and verify outstanding credits have been received for product shortagesPerform and regularly maintain detailed reconciliations, analysis of assigned general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as needed for reviewAnalyze expenses comparing against prior periods, projected spend and contract agreements for reasonableness; for example, freight, shipping, utilities and other expensesAssist with daily sales tax responsibilities; review and setup of customer exemption requirements, processing of tax credits as neededAssist with monthly and annual sales / use tax requirements, working with third party sales tax partnerAssist with store accounting responsibilities including but not limited to; daily close out and deposit process, local deliveries, store supply allocations and store expense reviewCompile and maintain accurate accounting and finance recordsHandle confidential material relevant to company operationsConducts special analytical projects to assist others within the companyCollaborates across multi-functional departments and teamsPromotes a positive atmosphere and work environment in the departmentEstablish and maintain good working relationships with all SSG employees, customers, and vendorsPerform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time quite often on short noticeRequirements
Required Skills / Abilities :
College experience or Bachelor’s degree in Business with an accounting or finance emphasis is preferredA minimum of 2 years related accounting experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredWorking knowledge of accepted accounting standards and procedures, including experience with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)Experience working in a fast-paced and customer-focused environmentKnowledgeable and comfortable working in standard business and professional tools and equipmentExperience working with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and working with accounting software packagesMust have attention to detail and data accuracyMust be a Problem Solver that is able to resolve problems in a timely manner, by gathering and analyzing information skillfullyThe ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects while meeting competing deadlinesAbility to analyze data and perform reconciliations of financial reportsAbility to communicate clearly and effectivelyFlexibility and willingness to undertake and learn new tasks as business processes change, and as delays and unexpected events happenAbility to deliver excellent internal & external customer serviceApproachable, works well in a team structure, and is able to work with a diverse group of peopleHigh degree of accountability and initiative, able to work constructively and responsibly on his / her own for periods of timeWorking for SSG will provide you with :
