The vision for the new cancer centre is to deliver leading, high quality, comprehensive cancer carethat integrates patient and family centered care, digital health technologies, founded on research and education, personalized medicine, and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Our redevelopment projects will help bring cancer care closer to home and improve cancer care services, ultimately supporting the future needs of British Columbians

The Burnaby Cancer Centre project has received government approval and is currently in the Alliance Development phase of the project.

The IMIT Program is an integral part of this new facility project. Strong technology and leadership expertise is required to support all phases of the project, up to and including, the facility opening and transition to operations.

Services Required :

One (1) Senior Project Manager is required to manage BC Cancer IT Infrastructure planning and implementation activities in partnership with Fraser Health. Fraser Health is leading the overall IT Infrastructure on the Burnaby Hospital campus; BC Cancer has responsibility to implement and provide ongoing support for the PHSA network and supporting technologies within the new facility. This role will work collaboratively on behalf of BC Cancer and Fraser Health, with our Alliance Partners; to analyze, plan and implement BC Cancer IT Infrastructure.

The Senior Project manager will be the primary BC Cancer IT Infrastructure liaison between the Fraser Health project team, Alliance and PHSA’s Technical Services team.

Initial priority :

  • Jointly engage the BC Cancer and Fraser Health teams to discover the highest priorities to create a workplan for the first 30 / 60 / 90.
  • Initial phase will include planning activities related to both BC Cancer and Fraser Health IMIT components.

Responsibilities will include the following :

  • Meet weekly (virtual and / or in-person) with BC Cancer Redevelopment Project team, Fraser Health project team, PHSA Technical Services, and Alliance Team; to build relationships and ensure clarity on roles and responsibilities (RASCI matrix).
  • Create project charter and workplan for the implementation and delivery of the BC Cancer IT Infrastructure components.
  • Ensure compliance with PHSA and Fraser Health Communications Infrastructure Standards and Specifications.
  • Make recommendations to leadership on BC Cancer IT Infrastructure and Island Health integration components.
  • Escalate risks and issues as needed.
  • Assess existing BC Cancer Centre’s IT Infrastructure (network, processing and storage) to support Early Implementation Opportunities (EIOs) as well as validating minimum specifications defined for the new Cancer Centre.
  • Follow the Fraser Health and BC Cancer Centre’s project management processes and tools.
  • Support the project’s One-Team culture, to support both BC Cancer and Island Health’s requirements and ensure a successful delivery of IT scope.
  • As BC Cancer has four active Redevelopment projects, the Senior Project Manager may need to assist / work other BC Cancer Redevelopment projects, as required.

    Constraints and Special Considerations :

  • May require evenings and / or weekends, on rare occasions.
  • Specific Qualifications or Experience Required

  • Extensive IT Infrastructure related experience, specifically in network, Wi-Fi, and telephony.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the PHSA Communications Infrastructure Standards and Specifications considered an asset
  • Experience working with facility build / redevelopment projects
  • Experience working with lower mainland health authorities and Island Health Authority
  • Experience working with PHSA Technical Services team
  • Proven experience working within large transformation projects
  • IT Infrastructure related education, training and / or certification (RCDD preferred but not required)
  • Experience and knowledge of CST Cerner EMR (preferred but not required)
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to form partnerships
  • Proven ability to support a collaborative team approach and clear decision-making
  • Exceptional communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff at all organizational levels, both internally and externally
