Job description

Reporting to the Manager HSE, the HSE Advisor will work alongside with the national health and safety team and local operations. The HSE advisor will emphasizes firsthand engagement and direct involvement with field operations to ensure risks are managed effectively and control measures are practical and implementable in the construction environment.

Primary Scope of Role :

  • Conduct site-specific risk assessments directly on construction sites, observing real-time operations to identify hazards.
  • Collaborate with field teams to assess risks associated with high-risk tasks, such as excavation, scaffolding, crane operations, and confined spaces.
  • Provide field-specific recommendations for hazard mitigation, including engineering controls, administrative actions, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Serve as the primary health and safety representative on construction sites, maintaining a visible presence to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support field teams in emergency situations by coordinating responses and ensuring access to first aid and firefighting equipment. Assist in testing and refining site-specific emergency plans based on real-world scenarios observed in the field.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks and on-the-spot safety briefings, addressing specific field hazards and solutions. Act as a liaison between field operations and management, conveying safety concerns and recommendations.
  • Conduct ongoing site observations to identify new or previously unaddressed hazards.

Specific Duties :

  • Recommend updates to risk assessments and control measures based on field conditions and evolving work processes.
  • Engage with field workers, contractors, and supervisors to foster a culture of safety awareness.
  • Monitor high-risk activities in the field, ensuring proper implementation of safety measures and immediately addressing unsafe practices.
  • Become the go-to advisor for field teams, offering hands-on guidance for safe execution of activities, such as but limited to machine operation or hazardous material handling.
  • Work closely with site supervisors and operations teams to integrate recommended control measures into daily workflows. Propose alternative strategies or adjustments in the field
  • Evaluate on-site risk factors, such as environmental conditions, equipment usage, and worker activities, to develop accurate assessments.
  • Position Requirements :

  • CRSP, NCSO or other professionally recognized safety certification required
  • COR / ISO Auditor training is preferred
  • Evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in health and safety, or equivalent education.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years Health and Safety experience in construction and industrial settings.
  • Comprehensive / working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industry safety standards.
  • Results-driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyse and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our business.
