Job description

Reporting to the Managing Director Accounting Policy and Investment Structure Management   the Director Accounting Policy Financial Policy and Reporting will be responsible for the establishment and implementation of all CPP Investments accounting policies to ensure compliance with the CPPIB Act and external standards. The role will also provide accounting policy support to CPP Investments wholly owned group companies.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in accounting policy development and application in addition to strong communication skills enabling them to effectively influence key stakeholders in many other parts of the organization. They must possess a strong acumen for accounting advisory in asset management and demonstrate a commercial mindset and a pragmatic approach in their decisionmaking and communication approach. They will have significant depth in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) with a specific focus on IFRS 9 and IFRS 10. They will also possess a continuous improvement mindset in building scalable and standardized processes and controls. They will have also demonstrated an ability to develop and cultivate talent while managing a high performing team composed of both internal and external staff.

The Director will be accountable for :

Accounting Operations

  • Researching and providing guidance on the accounting treatment for investments and entity structures drafting internal accounting guidance as well as contributing to enterprise projects with accounting implications;
  • Advising teams on accounting control assessments of investments;
  • Maintenance of controls over accounting policy development and implementation across the Fund;
  • Supporting quarterly financial reporting of CPP Investments as a subject matter expert;
  • Keeping abreast of new accounting pronouncements and analyzing their impact on the organization; and
  • Contributing to team and departmental objectives that are aligned with our longterm strategy.

Projects and Initiatives

  • Oversee strategic projects or initiatives endtoend integrating stakeholder needs adapting to changes and resolving issues. Contribute to other departmentled initiatives representing Corporate Accountings views as required.
  • Partner collaboratively with finance and other internal stakeholders to resolve crossfunctional issues and gaps. Propose and implement solutions that are aligned to the CPPIB strategy and reflect an understanding of business needs organizational impact and governance and controls.
  • People Management

  • Manage a team of internal and external staff providing leadership regular feedback and mentoring to the team to support a positive inclusive and highly effective team culture.
  • Actively manage and maintain effective external relationships with local accounting service vendors and cosource partners as well as industry peers.
  • Qualifications :

  • Professional accounting designation from a globally reputed professional body.
  • Minimum 8 years of accounting and operations experience in a leadership role.
  • Committed to continuous improvement with a broad view of building scalable and standardized processes within a robust control environment.
  • A track record of working collaboratively with multiple teams to identify and solve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in accomplishing complex objectives through their team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting and writing reports to various levels in the organization.
  • Exceptional time management and project prioritization skills. Ability to work under time sensitive deadlines and adjust to urgent situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high performing culture open to and comfortable with evolving changes and new challenges.
  • Experience with Oracle Financials general ledger is an asset.
