Duties and Responsibilities

Legal counsel, advisor and support to the Commercial and Operational pillars of the Company.

Responsible for supporting the Assistant General Counsel in customer, supplier, fleet management and financial legal matters for the Company, including :

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts with customers, such as contracts of affreightment and voyage charters;
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers, such as ship repair and drydock agreements;
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts for purchase and sale of ships and assisting with flag registration matters;
  • Providing legal support for financing transactions;
  • Providing opinions and guidance on legal matters related to the above, including analyzing applicable laws and regulations;
  • Assessing legal risk on matters related to the above and developing effective mitigation strategies; and
  • Working with external counsel in related matters.

Availability during non-business hours.

Qualification and Skills

  • 1-3 years of legal experience in commercial and corporate law with a major law firm or corporation.
  • Member of the Barreau du Quebec or equivalent certification.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize files and manage time.
  • Strong drafting and research skills.
  • Excellent team player and collaborator who is eager to learn.
  • Capable of working autonomously and with a global team.
  • Strong legal capabilities, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in commercial and service contracts and corporate finance - an asset.
  • Knowledge of maritime law, chartering or maritime operations - an asset.
  • Good communication skills in English and French (written and oral).
  • Highly ethical and accountable.
