Accounting Clerk

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accounts for review
  • Draft and finalize client invoices
  • Attend to all incoming billing related inquiries including invoices, billing templates and billing issues
  • Review and submit invoices to client systems using various ebilling platforms
  • Track and monitor invoice status
  • Investigate rejection notifications and work to resolve issues impacting successful submissions
  • Data entry (posting cash receipts, disbursements, etc.)
  • Analyze WIP, disbursements, trust balances and aged WIP
  • Process expense reports, credit card payments and reimbursement to client accounts
  • Reconcile firm credit card transactions
  • Liaise with vendors and deal with payment inquiries
  • Post and process accounts payable
  • Maintain and process an accurate accounting of all trust funds held by the firm in accordance with the Law Society of Ontario’s regulations
  • Maintain day-to-day relations with the bank and assist with resolving any banking related issues
  • Process / prepare daily cheques for both trust and general
  • Prepare various reports and statistical information requested by lawyers (ie. aged accounts receivable, time reports, work in progress, etc.)
  • Attend to financial inquiries from clients, lawyers and staff
  • Assist with year-end audit as required
  • Create and update rates and matter information as required
  • Provide assistance / coverage to members of the accounting team, as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ accounting experience in a law firm
  • Experience with trust accounting and knowledge of Law Society of Ontario rules
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Outlook, PC Law)
  • Must have working knowledge of the e-billing process
  • Experience with e-billing software
  • Good people skills and an ability to work effectively within a team
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
