Environmental Engineer-in-Training / Member-in-TrainingHalifax, NSStrum is currently seeking to expand our Permitting and Approvals Division and has an opening in our Halifax office for an Environmental Engineer-in-Training or Member-in-Training to join our team. The anticipated start date is May 2025.About Strum Consulting : Strum Consulting is a growing 175-person company with diverse projects throughout Atlantic Canada. We currently have offices in Halifax, Antigonish, Guysborough, and Port Hawkesbury, NS, as well as in Saint John, NB; St. John’s and Corner Brook, NL; and Labrador City, NL.Responsibilities : - Assist with groundwater and surface water assessments for various projects.- Assist with groundwater well installations.- Assist with the development of environmental assessment registration documents and operational / industrial approvals.- Conduct baseline air quality and noise monitoring.- Conduct greenhouse gas assessments.- Provide technical support for industrial projects, such as green fuel facilities.- Conduct technical report writing.- Conduct site visits to review construction work, including erosion and sediment control, and prepare comprehensive construction review reports.- Conduct fieldwork, including sample collection and monitoring.- Travel and work throughout Atlantic Canada.- Prepare client deliverables, including analytical tables, technical reports, estimates, and proposals, in accordance with Strum’s quality standards.- Attend and participate in internal project meetings with the Team Lead and coordinate with team members to ensure efficient and timely delivery of projects within the schedule.- Provide clear and concise reporting to Project Managers.- Adhere to Strum’s health and safety program and ensure safety procedures and protocols are followed.Qualifications : Required Qualifications : - An undergraduate degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or geology.- Engineer-in-Training or Member-in-Training, licensed or eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers Nova Scotia (APENS) or Association of Professional Geoscientists Nova Scotia (APGNS).- Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License.- Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.- Willingness and ability to travel and conduct fieldwork in remote areas of Atlantic Canada for extended periods.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.Preferred Qualifications : - Understanding of hydrological and hydrogeological processes- Experience with modelling software such as HEC-HMS, PCSWMM, and FEFLOW.- Understanding of contaminant fate and transport.- Understanding of the basic principles of survey equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones.- Willingness to learn and work as a member of a team comprised of surveyors, geoscientists, engineers, technicians, environmental scientists, and biologists.- Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.- Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, and excellent communication skills.- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with ever-changing priorities and tight deadlines.
