With over $250.4 billion of gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Since its inception in 2000, BCI has grown significantly and is now regarded as one of the most influential financial institutions globally, investing across a range of asset classes and strategies in public and private markets. BCI employs over 700 people across offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York and London. Being recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers and BC’s Top Employers exemplifies BCI’s ongoing commitment to be a progressive workplace of choice; one that attracts, retains, and promotes talent so that they can continue to work towards helping British Columbian public sector clients build financially secure futures.

The Total Rewards team is a key component of BCI’s HR department, offering strategic oversight and delivery of compensation, benefits, wellness, global mobility, and payroll. A unique opportunity now exists for a total rewards leader to lead and shape the organization's compensation and rewards strategies at a pivotal time as the organization enters into its triennial compensation review by the Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Director, Total Rewards has strategic and hands-on oversight for designing, delivering and administering all aspects of compensation, benefits, wellness, global mobility and payroll at BCI. The Director manages a team of 7 dedicated total rewards professionals and works closely with the HR team on matters to support BCI’s culture, drive desired behaviours and the achievement of business results. The position is a member of the HR Leadership Team (HRLT) and the Director will collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Finance, Total Fund, Talent Acquisition, and the Compensation Working Group, which they will chair.

The ideal candidate is an experienced and business-focused compensation professional and team leader who has helped develop and implement total reward programs and strategies in dynamic, ideally global, fast-paced environments. Specific experience in investment management, capital markets or broader financial services is required. Broader total rewards knowledge and working knowledge of global mobility, international benefits administration, wellness programs and multi-jurisdictional payroll is preferable to complement and provide thought partnership to the strong team in place in that area. The Director will be intellectually curious, a strong relationship builder and highly collaborative but also not afraid to make a decision when required. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong balance of strategic vision and technical expertise, as well as the ability to deliver innovative solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Based in beautiful Victoria, BC (considered one of the most livable cities in the world!), this is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic leader to shape the compensation and rewards strategy for one of the largest, most influential and successful institutional investment organizations in the world.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria is CAD $144,000-$170,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.

We thank all applicants for their interest in this position. Please note that we will only be in contact with those individuals moving forward with our client.
